LEVEL 08 · LESSON 02

Species, cultivar, explant and stage context

See it

Evidence becomes stronger when its biological context matches the intended use. A paper on one cultivar or explant can still be informative, but the mismatch should remain visible rather than being silently generalized.

Understand it

Record taxon and cultivar/genotype separately.
Record explant and developmental stage.
Label cross-context use as extrapolation or trial-required.
Important boundary

Do not upgrade indirect evidence to ‘canonical’ without review.

Try it

Explain the concept in your own words, then identify what plant, explant, stage, units, source, or observation context would need to be preserved before applying it.

Lesson quiz

Apply it

Connect this lesson to an actual MyTCLab record: what fields would you need in order to know later exactly what happened and why?
