LEVEL 08 · LESSON 08

Recording deviations

See it

A deviation is any meaningful difference between the planned protocol and what actually happened. Recording deviations protects the value of the experiment because later results can be interpreted in light of those differences.

Understand it

Record what changed, when, why, and who made the change.
Do not overwrite the original plan.
Connect deviations to affected batches and outcomes.
Important boundary

An undocumented deviation can turn an apparently precise experiment into ambiguous evidence.

Try it

Explain the concept in your own words, then identify what plant, explant, stage, units, source, or observation context would need to be preserved before applying it.

Lesson quiz

Apply it

Connect this lesson to an actual MyTCLab record: what fields would you need in order to know later exactly what happened and why?
