LEVEL 05 · LESSON 05

Transfers and subculture

See it

Subculture moves material to fresh culture conditions or divides it into derived cultures. Each transfer can change lineage, vessel count, medium context, contamination exposure, and developmental state.

Understand it

Create child records or preserve parent-child relationships.
Record date, operator, destination medium/version, and location.
A transfer is both a biological action and a traceability event.
Important boundary

Do not overwrite the parent record as if the previous state never existed.

Try it

Explain the concept in your own words, then identify what plant, explant, stage, units, source, or observation context would need to be preserved before applying it.

Lesson quiz

Apply it

Connect this lesson to an actual MyTCLab record: what fields would you need in order to know later exactly what happened and why?
