LEVEL 04 · LESSON 05

pH as a concept

See it

pH describes hydrogen-ion activity and influences nutrient chemistry, gel behavior, and plant culture conditions. Tissue-culture protocols often specify a target pH range before sterilization or final preparation, but the exact value belongs to the reviewed protocol rather than a universal rule.

Understand it

pH is logarithmic, so a one-unit change is large.
Measurement quality depends on a suitable, calibrated instrument.
Record when pH was measured and what protocol target was used.
Important boundary

Do not invent or copy a pH target without checking the actual protocol.

Try it

Explain the concept in your own words, then identify what plant, explant, stage, units, source, or observation context would need to be preserved before applying it.

Lesson quiz

Apply it

Connect this lesson to an actual MyTCLab record: what fields would you need in order to know later exactly what happened and why?
