LEVEL 04 · LESSON 01

What culture medium does

See it

Culture medium supplies a controlled chemical environment that can include mineral nutrients, a carbon source, vitamins or organic supplements, plant growth regulators, water, and—when a solid or semi-solid system is used—a gelling agent. Composition is selected for the plant material and developmental objective.

Understand it

Medium is part of the biological treatment, not just ‘plant food.’
Different stages can require different media or regulator contexts.
A recipe should preserve source, version, and intended plant/stage.
Important boundary

Never assume a medium that works for one plant or stage is optimal for another.

Try it

Explain the concept in your own words, then identify what plant, explant, stage, units, source, or observation context would need to be preserved before applying it.
