See it
During multiplication, the objective is to increase useful propagules, commonly shoots, while maintaining acceptable morphology and identity. Subculture timing, plant growth regulators, vessel environment, and genotype can all affect multiplication quality.
Understand it
Distinguish usable propagules from total shoot count
Count both quantity and quality; a high number of abnormal shoots is not automatically success.
Multiplication aims to increase material that remains suitable for further propagation, not merely inflate a count.
Retain lineage during division
Preserve lineage when material is divided.
Division creates derived material, so lineage should link the descendants to their parent culture.
Evaluate quality alongside quantity
Watch for hyperhydricity, necrosis, browning, and loss of vigor.
A high count of abnormal material is not automatically better than fewer healthy usable propagules.
Worked example
One batch produces many abnormal shoots; another produces fewer usable ones. Counting every shoot equally would hide the quality difference. Record useful propagules and morphology alongside totals.
Explain your decision before opening the worked reasoning below.
Show the worked reasoning
Quality checks examine morphology and health signals that can limit the usefulness of multiplied material.
Timing, regulators, vessel environment and genotype can influence multiplication, so counts need context.
Do not optimize only for the largest shoot count.

Apply it
Use the worked example to write a short decision record: what did you observe, which rule did you apply, and what would you check before acting?
Completion marks reading progress, not a quiz pass or professional certification.
